An Introduction to Latin in the Mass

This course is a basic introduction to the Latin of the Mass. First, the wisdom of the use of liturgical Latin as a sacred language for the Roman Rite is examined. Second, the dialogical parts and the Latin of the sung Ordinaries of the Mass will be examined to better understand their meaning and their theological significance.

Fr. Robin Kwan

Reverend Robin Kwan is an Associate Pastor of St. Peter Catholic Church in Volo, and a member of the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius. He grew up in San Diego and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 2005 from the University of California, San Diego, before joining the Canons Regular that same year. In 2013, he earned a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Theology at Holy Apostles College and Seminary. On May 31, 2013 he was ordained to the priesthood. Prior to his assignment at St. Peter’s, he was stationed at St. John Cantius Parish as an Associate Pastor. He has taught Novitate classes in Latin and on the Consecrated Life, and is enthusiastic to teach a class on the Latin of the Mass at the Liturgical Institute.
